The Cleveland Digestive Diseases Research Core Center (DDRCC) is a cross-institutional and multi-disciplinary program between Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center (UHCMC), and Cleveland Clinic Foundation
The DDRCC aims to enhance the basic research capabilities of center investigators and develop and implement programs to support independent development of young investigators in digestive inflammation and metabolism research. The DDRCC also seeks to attract established investigators who are not currently involved in digestive disease research to apply their expertise to this important area and help translate basic research discoveries to the clinical arena.
The center’s two major themes are digestive inflammation and metabolism, both of which represent well-established areas of collaborative investigation at CWRU. The Cleveland DDRCC is focused on what produces the digestive diseases that affect millions of people in the U.S., such as inflammatory bowel disease, hepatitis, metabolic syndromes and obesity.
The Cleveland Digestive Diseases Research Core Center (DDRCC) is composed of three scientific core laboratories and an administrative core with a clinical component, all of which provide support for the research efforts of our center members. Together with the Pilot/Feasibility and Enrichment Programs, the cores promote the development of interactive research relevant to digestive diseases.
Each core provides certain standard “service” functions for investigators, such as clinical specimen storage in the BioRepository Core, tissue preparation and sectioning in the Histology/Imaging Core, education and training on various mouse modeling techniques in the Mouse Models Core, and clinical study design consultation in the Clinical Component of the Administrative Core. These core services provide high-quality, low-cost services to enhance the quality of research efforts by our individual DDRCC members.
