USC Research Center for Liver Diseases:

Research Focus

The Center serves as a focal point for faculty from throughout the University who join together with shared interests in Liver Diseases and other aspects of Digestive Diseases which are of common interest in Themes and subthemes, referred to as special interest groups (SIGs). The designation of SIG identifies groups of investigators who interact regularly, cross-collaborate extensively and share methods and resources.

The Center’s membership and activities have led to thematic organization of a Research Base devoted to Liver Disease with the following four major Themes:

  1. Viral hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma
  2. Steatohepatitis and fibrosis
  3. Liver injury (hepatotoxicity and mitochondrial pathobiology)
  4. Repair, regenerative medicine, and developmental biology
