Core Facilities

The Center is composed of five cores. All are located in the Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery with the exception of the Tissue and Cell Analysis Core, which is located in the Billings Medical Center.


  • Anatomic pathology review and consultation
  • Processing of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded mouse tissues
  • Access to human tissues and tissue arrays from the paraffin-embedded tissue archives of the University of Chicago Department of Pathology
  • High-quality banking of snap-frozen tissues from surgical specimens
  • Training and use of laser capture micro-dissection microscopes and cryostats
  • Training and use of the ACIS II automated cellular imaging system
  • Training and use of photon, confocal, and widefield fluorescence microscopes as well as brightfield photomicroscopes
  • Training and use of advanced image analysis software
