Dr. Jerrold Turner is the Associate Chair of the Department of Pathology at the University of Chicago. He has directed the Tissue and Cell Analysis Core and its predecessor, the Molecular and Experimental Pathology Core, since 2004. In 2007, the core was reorganized into its present form in response to changing use patterns, including increasing demand for human and animal tissue analysis. Dr. Turner is an epithelial cell biologist/physiologist and a practicing, subspecialty-trained gastrointestinal surgical pathologist with extensive knowledge and experience in the analysis of tissue specimens from humans and experimental animals. Dr. Turner also has a major interest in studying epithelial cell function in the context of mucosal inflammation and inflammatory bowel disease that includes development, functional analysis, and live imaging of genetically-modified cell lines and mice. He also serves as Chair of the Faculty Oversight Committee for the Biological Science Division Integrated Light Microscopy Core Facility, which houses the various confocal and widefield fluorescence microscopes used for core support.
